‘Her lyrical connotations are at once sexy and sinister, while her vocal delivery carries a slinky, determined innocence straight from the trailer park, supported by throwback grooves evocative of Nancy Sinatra, with a jazz attitude. Her visual messages are dangerously alluring… ‘
~the Smudge of Ashen Fluff Blog

‘Her music videos have such a wonderfully nostalgic, classic American feel- From American flags and classic cars in the video “Kill Kill” to Calico Hills, Las Vegas, sparklers, Planet Hollywood and images of her as a flower child and Marilyn in “Yayo”– Even the way the videos are shot is retro — at times you feel as if you’re transported back to 1950s-1960s America.’ ~ Huffington Post

‘Walking into the crowded rock-lined basement was like stepping onto the set of Mad Men. Lizzy’s entire set made me feel as if I were in some smoky early ’60’s lounge; her voice is from a different era and her presence, naturally coy and shy, gives off this slightly plastic, slightly Warholian feel.’ ~Radio Exile

Rare Elements Omar Faruk Tekbilek is out today!

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

re_oft

The second installment in the Rare Elements series, this album pairs Turkish
multi-instrumentalist virtuoso Omar Faruk Tekbilek with the worlds hottest
remixers, including Amon Tobin, Flosstradamus, Junior Sanchez, Tommie
Sunshine and many more.

On this album, Omar Faruk plays twelve traditional Turkish instruments:
ney, kaval, kavala, zurna, oud, baglama, jura, darbuka, def, bendir, davul
and finger cymbals.  All-star remixers took these traditional Turkish sounds
and melodies and transformed them using sensibilities grounded in electronic
and dance music.

Omar Faruk Tekbilek is a masterful performer whose first-rate musicianship
provides a cohesive thread throughout the album, while the remixers’
individual perspectives lend a variety that makes the album an exhilarating
and exotic adventure.

The record is available at:
iTunes
and
Amazon.com

Kodomo’s remix for Rare Elements: Omar Faruk Tekbilek, “Omar’s Chocco,” was recently played on SoundRoots on KAOS-fm, broadcast from Olympia, Washington. The west coast really likes this track; it was also recently heard on the mighty KCRW in Los Angeles!
